Kuba waga kilmu (Lardil language: Hello everybody)

Mornington Island State School is a Pre Prep-Year 10 Campus located in the town of Gununa, Mornington Island.

We believe in working together within, and for, our community.

We believe collaborative and cooperative effort is the key to unlock the education expectations for our students and their families.  To this end, our school works closely with other agencies and supporters to benefit our students and their learning futures.  Our partnerships in learning extend far beyond the shores of Mornington Island.  Our school has grown learning partnerships with schools and training facilities across Queensland.

We expect our students to learn.

We expect families to support children's learning in partnership with our school.

We ensure learning is our first school focus everyday.

Our school team drives our improvement plan under 3 interconnected steps -

1. Attending - Together,  we learn with each other and from each other.  Our definition of attending relates to readiness to learn.  Attending to our learning needs is an individual and collective attitude.

2. Learning - We believe that every person wants to learn and share their learnings with others. The quality of our collective teaching most powerfully influences student and teacher learning.

3. Futures - Anything is possible! We have strong and collaborative partnerships with offshore and onshore learning providers.  We share the learning responsibility of our students both past and present.

2017 marks the graduation of our first student at TecNQ in Townsville.

We provide options for our students to further their education and training on the island or to prepare them to study and train elsewhere. We support our students to be confident learners. We encourage our students to have the courage to make good choices. We work with each of them to face challenges and believe that anything is possible through education. Our students are clever. Our students are proud of their rich cultural history. Our students love life and love learning. Our staff are proud to share in this learning journey.

Smart students know their culture and respect education.
