Kuba waga kilmu – Hello everybody! in Lardil
Mornington Island State School is a Kindy - Year 10 campus located in the town of Gununa, Mornington Island, which is part of the South Wellesley Island Group of the Gulf of Carpentaria.
We believe in working together, within and for our community.
We believe collaborative and cooperative effort is the key to unlocking the education expectations for our students and their families. To this end, our school works closely with other agencies and supporters to benefit our students and their learning futures. Our learning partnerships begin within our island community and extend far beyond the shores of Mornington Island, with schools and training facilities across Queensland.
Our Expectations
We expect our students to be safe, to be respectful, to be learners and to belong at school. For more information about our behavioural expectations, view our Behaviour Expectations Matrix (PDF, 596KB).
We encourage families to support children's learning in partnership with our school.
We ensure learning is our first school focus every day.
School Improvement & Strategic Planning
We aim to improve the following elements of our whole-school performance:

3. Attendance and Engagement – Our community works together to create diverse spaces where students want to come and learn.
4. Pathways for all students – We support and encourage our students' on and off island aspirations.
5. Wellness, responsibility and resilience – We encourage and support personal responsibility, respect and resilience to enhance student and staff wellbeing.

Culture of Learning
We provide options for our students to further their education and training on the island or to prepare them to study and train elsewhere. We support our students to be confident learners. We encourage our students to have the courage to make good choices. We work with each of them to face challenges and believe that anything is possible through education.
Our students are strong, smart and deadly. They show pride in their culture and love learning. Smart students know their culture and respect education. Our staff are proud to share in this learning journey.
